THEME: FREEDOM

MY US HISTORY TEACHER, MR HARDING HAS ASKED US TO CREATE OUR OWN BLOG ABOUT MODERN TIMES IN US HISTORY. THE THEME I HAVE CHOOSEN TO WRITE ABOUT IS FREEDOM. ALL AMERICANS OF THE UNITED STATES CAN ENJOY THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, THE FREEDOM TO EXECISE RELIGON AND FREEDOM OF PRESS.AS AN AMERICAN YOU ARE GRANTED THESE RIGHTS TO AN EXTENT YOU CANT ABUSE THESE RIGHTS BUT YOU CAN EXPRESS YOUR OPINION. THE ARTICLE I HAVE CHOOSEN TO WRITE ABOUT TALKS ABOUT AN AMERICAN FOOTBALL PLAYER NAMED COLIN KAEPERNICK. DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM KAEPERNICK DECIDED TO PRTOEST AND NOT STAND UP. IT IS SAID THAT HE DECIDED NOT TO STAND BECAUSE OF RACIAL INJUSTICE AND SOCIAL INJUSTICES. IN THE ARTICLE IT SEEMS THE AUTHOR IS AGAINST KAEPERNICKS DECISION BECUASE HE HAS GIVEN INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT TO DO DURING THE PLEDGE, REMOVING OF HATS AND SOME FACTS ABOUT OUR HISTORY. IT'S THE AMERICAN THING TO STAND UP FACING THE FLAG WITH YOUR RIGHT HAND OVER YOUR HEART WHEN THE NATIONAL ANTHEM IS PLAYED. AS AN AMERICAN IT IS OUR DUTY TO REMOVE ANY HATS AND PLEDGE.THE FLAG REPRESENTS DEMOCRACY AND JUSTICE WHICH IS THE ESSENCE OF FREEDOM.

THEME: COLONIAL TIMES

THIS MONTHS THEME IS ABOUT COLONIAL TIMES AND SINCE MY THEME IS FREEDOM THE ARTICLE I HAVE CHOSEN TO WRITE ABOUT IS CALLED RELIGION IS COLONIAL AMERICA: TRENDS, REGULATION, AND BELIFS.THIS ARTICLE SHOWS THE INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM OF BELIF AND PATTERNS OF RELIGION IN COLONIAL TIMES BETWEEN1660 AND 1776. DURING THIS TIME PERIOD THERE WAS MANY STRICT ENFORCED LAWS SUCH AS ATTENDING HOUSE OF WORSHIP AND PAYING TAXES. MOST COLONIST CONSIDERED THEMSELVES CHRISTIAN BUT THEY WERENT UNIFED. THE BRITISH COLONIST HAD RESTRICTION AGAINST CATHOLICS AND IN EUROPE, CATHOLIC AND PROTESTANTS PERSECUTED EACH OTHERS RELIGION. ALTHOUGH, RELIGION WAS SEEMED TO BE SOMETHING THAT WOULD HELP UNIFY AND BRING TOGETHER PEOPLE OF THE SAME FAITH DURING THE COLONIAL TIMES THEY MOSTLY HAD RESTRICTIONS AGAINST EACH OTHER. IN THE NEW ENGLAND COLONIES THE PEOPLE WERE MOSTLY FROM THE PURITANS RELIGION. SUCH AS CATHOLICS, LUTHERANS AND OTHERS. LAWS WERE PASSED THAT HAD SAID CITIZENS WHO DIDNT PARTICIPATE IN THE RELIGIOUS CUSTOMS WERE PUNISHED FOR THREATENING CIVIL ORDER.THE MIDDLE AND SOUTHERN COLONIES ON THE OTHER HAND HAD A VARIETY OF RELIGIONS. ALSO IN THE GREAT AWAKENING THERE WAS A WAVE OF RELIGIOUS FEVER. THE GREAT AWAKENING BEGAN TO QUESTION THE RIGHT OF AUTHORITY IN ALL MATTERS OF RELIGION. THE AUTHORS VIEW IN THIS ARTICLE SEEMS TO BE AGAINST THE PUNISHMENTS AND STRICT LAWS ENFORCED BECAUSE HE TRYS TO EMPHASIZE THE LAWS ENFORCED IN EACH PARAGRAPH AND SHOWS HIS POINT OF VIEW. OVERALL EACH RELIGION HAD PUNISHMENTS AND HARSH RULES AGAINST EACH OTHER BUT IT DIDNT NECESSARILY MEAN THAT THEY WERE ALL UNIFIED UNDER THEIR OWN RELIGION.

THEME: THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

THE THEME FOR MY BLOG THIS MONTH IS ON THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION AND HOW IT CONNECTS WITH FREEDOM. THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION WAS A WAR OF INDEPENDENCE FOR THE UNITED STATES. THE CONFLICT AROSE FROM GROWING TENSION BETWEEN GREAT BRITAN AND NORTH AMERICAN COLONIES.THE UNTIED STATES WANTED TO FIGHT FOR THEIR COUNTRIES FREEDOM AND TAKE BACK WHATS THEIRS. AMERICANS WERE FIGHTING FOR THEIR FREEDOM, BUT NOT FOR THE FREEDOM OF THEIR SLAVES. SLAVES DIDNT CARE WHICH SIDE THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR, THEY WERE REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT GAINING FREEDOM SO THEY COULD BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY  .THOSE WHO WERE ON THE BRITISH SIDE WERE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD BE GIVEN LAND AND SELF GOVERNMENT. THEY HAD A BETTER CHANCE OF FREEDOM WITH THE BRITISH THAN WITH AMERICANS. THIS DIDNT NECESSARILY MEAN THAT THE BRITSH KEPT THEIR PROMISES THEY JUST WANTED TO HAVE MORE PEOPLE ON THEIR SIDE. THERE WERES RUMORS THAT SLAVES WILLING TO BEAR ARMS HAD BEEN FREED IN BRITAN. I THINK OVERALL THAT THE WRITER OF THIS ARTICLE HAS TAKEN THE BRITISH SIDE BECAUSE HE HAS GIVEN MORE FACTS ABOUT THE BRITISH STRENGTH DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR THAN AMERICANS.`

THEME: THE CIVIL WAR

THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR WAS AN INTERNAL CONFLICT FOUGHT IN THE UNITED STATES. AS IT SAYS IN THE ARTICLE THE CIVIL WAR BROUGHT " A NEW BIRTH OF FREEDOM". SLAVERY BECAME REALLY HARSH DURING THE WAR. THE SOUTH BELIVED THAT SALVES WERE NEEDED TO DO LABOR AND OTHER NEEDS. HOWEVER THE NORTH TRIED TO ABOLISH SLAVERY WITH THE HELP OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S PRESIDENCY. THE INSTITUTION OF SLAVERY HAD DIVIDED THE COUNTRY. THE CIVIL WAR STARTED DUE TO MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE FREE AND SLAVES STATES.AFTER ABOUT FOUR YEARS OF CONFLICT IT LEAD TO A NORTHERN VICTORY AND ENDED SLAVERY. THIS GAVE A NEW BIRTH OF FREEDOM FOR THE SLAVES.BY THE END OF THE WAR THE SOUTH BECAME RUINED AND STARTED TO BEGIN RECONSTRUCTION.LOOKING AT THIS ARTICLE IT SEEMS THAT THE AUTHOR IS ON THE NORTHS SIDE AND IS VERY FOND OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN BECAUSE HE EXPLAINS HIS PLANS AS PRESIDENT AND HOW MUCH HE HELPED CHANGE AMERICAN HISTORY.

World war One

My topic for this month is world war one and the article I have chosen relates to my theme which is freedom. World war 1 was fought from 1914 to 1918 between the Allies, Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the central powers Germany, Austria- Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman empire. The article I have chosen is called World War one: A fight for freedom? This article talks about how during the war they were fighting for freedom in a different sense. Nations were trying to preserve their nations freedom rather than an individual. In none of these states women had the right to vote and for citizen’s freedom was not fully realized. When nations entered the war their main priority wasn’t necessarily freedom but to preserve the balance of power. I believe that we all deserve to fight for freedom and it should motivate people.  Overall I believe the authors point of view is that people were not necessarily free and put power before freedom in a sense.

theme: Civil Rights Movement

This quarter my history teacher gave us the civil rights movement as our topic and I will compare it to my theme which is freedom. The civil rights movement was a struggle by African Americans in the mid-1950s to late 1960s to achieve Civil Rights equal to those of whites, including equal opportunity in employment, housing, and education, as well as the right to vote, the right of equal access to public facilities, and the right to be free of racial discrimination. This was a time in history where African Americans had little freedom. During this time the Jim crow laws were created to segregate public schools, public places, and public transportation. The article I found is called The Civil rights movement and it talks about how hard the lives were for African Americans and how much discrimination they faced. They were dehumanized and had their freedom stripped away from them. The movement had a huge impact on the American society by forming the “separate but equal” doctrine. Separate but equal was a legal doctrine in United States constitutional law according to which racial segregation did not violate the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
